Purple Disco Machine delivers soundtrack for Volkswagen’s “Fire + Ice” comeback
Sony Music, Volkswagen and Bogner launch a cross-genre collaboration.
With a reinterpretation of the cult song “Fire + Ice,” Purple Disco Machine and Jake Shears bring fresh sparkle to an iconic era. The track, released by Sony Music Entertainment, accompanies Volkswagen’s new all-electric special edition ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE and is part of a cross-genre collaboration with BOGNER FIRE+ICE.
“Fire + Ice” is more than just a song – it’s a bridge between past and future. Inspired by the legendary ski film Fire and Ice by Willy Bogner (1986) and the Golf special edition of the same name from the 1990s, Purple Disco Machine gives the original sound a modern, disco-infused twist. Jake Shears, lead singer of the Scissor Sisters and queer pop icon, contributes his unmistakable falsetto voice, embodying a spirit of euphoria and liberation.
The accompanying music video features spectacular stunts with the Golf 2 Fire & Ice and its all-electric successor, the ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE. The visual concept emphasizes the track’s retro-futurism and fuses automotive innovation with musical extravagance. The limited edition of the ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE offers exclusive design, dynamic performance, and numerous highlights. In tribute to the original’s birth year, only 1,990 vehicles will be available.

“Purple Disco Machine’s reinterpretation of ‘Fire + Ice’ is a musical statement that resonates far beyond the dancefloor,” says Lisanne Dorn Bota, SVP Commercial Division Sony Music GSA. “The collaboration with Volkswagen, BOGNER FIRE+ICE, and Sony Music’s Brand Partnerships team shows how music, fashion, and mobility can come together to spark new impulses and create pop culture moments.”
Purple Disco Machine, born Tino Piontek, is one of the world’s most successful producers. With over two billion streams, a Grammy for the remix of “About Damn Time,” and his current album Paradise, he has firmly established himself in the international music scene.
